In October 2026 we saw used HPLC autosamplers sold without a warranty from about EUR 1,500, inspected used units at EUR 2,400-4,600 and refurbished Agilent modules with a 90-180 day warranty at USD 3,200-10,800. It is a good buy when the module matches your pump, data system and pressure range, and when you budget for a maintenance kit on arrival. Before paying, check the needle, seat, rotor seal, metering seals, tray mechanics, wash pump, leak sensor and firmware, and get the warranty terms in writing.

## Key points

- The same model can differ by 40% or more between sellers; compare what is included (warranty type, LAN card, loop, shipping), not the headline price.
- "Refurbished", "used, inspected", "used" and "as is" mean different things. Ask what was tested and what the warranty covers.
- Compatibility with your pump and chromatography data system (CDS) matters more than price: a module your software cannot drive is not a bargain.
- Maintenance parts can cost more than the module. One Agilent high-performance sampler kit costs about 45% of the price of the used unit it fits.
- Agilent's guaranteed support ended in May 2015 for the 1100 Series and in May 2018 for the 1200 Series, and Thermo Fisher has discontinued the UltiMate 3000. Wear parts often outlive guaranteed support; repair parts may not.

## What does a used HPLC autosampler cost in 2026?

Listings we opened in October 2026; treat them as a snapshot. US prices exclude tax and EU prices exclude VAT, as listed.

| Module | Seller's grade | Seller | Price (seen October 2026) | Warranty stated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Agilent 1260 Infinity II Vialsampler G7129A (600 bar) | Fully recertified | [Marshall Scientific](https://marshallscientific.com/products/agilent-1260-infinity-ii-hplc-g7129a-vialsampler) | USD 10,515 | 180 days, parts and labour |
| Agilent 1260 G1367E high performance autosampler | Certified refurbished | [Quantum Analytics](https://store.lqa.com/product/3389-agilent-1260-high-performance-autosampler-g1367e/) | USD 10,800 | 90 days, onsite |
| Agilent 1260 G1367E high performance autosampler | Recertified | [Marshall Scientific](https://marshallscientific.com/products/agilent-1260-infinity-i-hplc-g1367e-high-performance-autosampler) | USD 7,560 | 180 days, parts and labour |
| Agilent 1100 G1313A ALS | Fully tested and refurbished | [AmpTech Instruments](https://www.amptechfl.com/products/agilent-1100-g1313a-hplc-als-autosampler) | USD 3,200 | 180 days |
| Agilent 1200 G1367C | Used device, inspected | [Labexchange](https://shop.labexchange.com/en/agilent-g-1367c.html) | EUR 4,600 | 60-day full guarantee, certificate of operation |
| Waters ACQUITY Sample Manager | Used device, inspected | [Labexchange](https://shop.labexchange.com/nl/chromatografie/hplc-autosampler.html) | EUR 2,400 | Seller's standard terms |
| Thermo UltiMate 3000 WPS-3000TBFC (2012) | Surplus, condition not stated | [Surplus Solutions](https://ssllc.com/product/Thermo-Scientific-Dionex-UltiMate-3000-Autosampler-A169528) | EUR 2,500 | Not stated |
| Waters 2707 | Used, powers on | [Equipt](https://www.equipt.com/listings/78777-used-waters-autosampler-lab-autosamplers-in-california) | USD 2,200 | None, sold as is; 30-day return |
| Agilent 1100 G1329A | Used | [Surplus Solutions](https://www.labx.com/item/agilent-technologies-1100-series-autosampler-g1329a-hplc/DIS-50372-V20367) | EUR 1,500 | None |

Three things stand out. The two G1367E listings differ by USD 3,240 (43%): the dearer one includes a LAN interface, a 100 µL loop, onsite warranty service and shipping within the US and Canada; the cheaper one has a longer warranty. The cheapest units carry the most risk: the Waters 2707 powers on but shows no power light, "may require calibration" and is sold as is with a 30-day return. And new modules are sold on quotation; Agilent's vialsampler is now listed as the [1260 Infinity III Vialsampler](https://www.selectscience.net/product/agilent-1260-infinity-ii-vialsampler), so Infinity II units are reaching the second-hand market.

We could not find a priced Shimadzu SIL-20 listing that was still open in October 2026; [GenTech Scientific](https://gentechscientific.com/product/sil-20ac/) lists a certified refurbished SIL-20AC without a public price.

## New, refurbished, used or auction: what do you actually get?

The labels are not standardised. This is what the sellers above promise.

| Grade | What the seller states | Typical warranty seen | Your risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| New | Current firmware, vendor installation and support | Vendor warranty, quoted per order | Lowest, at the highest price |
| Refurbished or recertified | Tested to the manufacturer's specification before shipping (Marshall); certified refurbished (Quantum) | 90-180 days | Low, if the warranty terms are clear |
| Used, inspected | Verified by service technicians before delivery, with a certificate of operation (Labexchange) | 60-day guarantee, extension to one year optional | Moderate |
| Used | Listed as used; Quantum Analytics gives used systems 30 days | 0-30 days | High |
| As is or auction | Sold without warranty; returns only if the seller's terms allow them | None | Highest; assume a repair |

Read the warranty terms, not just the length. [Quantum Analytics' policy](https://www.labx.com/item/agilent-1260-high-performance-autosampler-g1367e/scp-96125-5873302) gives refurbished instruments 90 days onsite (six months if you buy their installation) and sells international orders as is. Marshall Scientific's optional extension (USD 1,577 on the G7129A) gives one year from receipt, but you ship the unit back for repair. Onsite and return-to-base cover differ a lot if your lab is far from the seller.

## Is your model still supported?

Support status decides whether you can still get parts and repairs in three years. Agilent uses two milestones, explained in a June 2025 notice from Agilent Japan ([DE-007329, in Japanese](https://www.chem-agilent.com/pdf/br-end-of-guaranteed-support-2025-agilent.pdf)): **end of guaranteed support (EGS)**, when production of repair parts ends and repairs continue only while stock lasts (general consumable parts stay on sale), and **end of support (EOS)**, after which repairs, engineer visits and service contracts are generally no longer offered.

- **Agilent 1100 Series** (G1313A, G1329A and the other 1100 modules). Agilent's [1100 Series EGS flyer](https://icpms.cz/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/5991_5227_EN_67af2c9e7e/5991-5227EN.pdf) gives a product introduction of 1 July 1999 and EGS in May 2015, with parts available "for as long as our existing supply lasts".
- **Agilent 1200 Series** (G1367C and others). Agilent wrote in 2017 that it would "migrate product support away from 1200 Series LC Systems" in May 2018 ([flyer 5991-8615ENE](https://icpms.cz/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/5991_8615_ENE_1200_refresh_flyer_LR_87900ecd25/5991-8615ENE_1200_refresh_flyer_LR.pdf)), and the 2025 notice lists the 1200 Series among products whose repair-parts period ended at the end of May 2018.
- **Agilent 1260 Infinity, first generation.** The same 2025 notice lists the G2258A dual-loop and G2260A preparative autosamplers at the end of March 2026, and 1260 Series modules, naming the G1310B, G1312B and G1311C pumps "and other modules", at the end of April 2026. It does not name the G1367E or G1329B, and it was written for Japan, so confirm your exact module and region with Agilent.
- **Thermo Scientific UltiMate 3000.** Thermo Fisher's [UltiMate 3000 page](https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/industrial/chromatography/liquid-chromatography-lc/hplc-uhplc-systems/ultimate-3000-hplc-uhplc-systems.html) states that it has discontinued the UltiMate 3000 HPLC system and related modules and points customers to Vanquish. It gives no end-of-service date, so ask about your specific WPS-3000 variant.
- **Waters Alliance 2695, Shimadzu LC-10 and LC-20.** We could not open a current vendor notice for these, so we quote no dates. Ask the vendor in writing.

A practical test: check whether the module's preventive maintenance (PM) kit can still be ordered. In October 2026, more than eleven years after the 1100 Series EGS, the Agilent PM kit for G1313A and G1329A samplers (G1313-68730) was listed as available from the manufacturer's stock at [HPST](https://eshop.hpst.cz/en/82811-pm-kit-for-standard-autosamplers), a Czech chromatography supplier. Wear parts tend to outlive guaranteed support; boards, motors and sensors may not. If the wear parts are no longer sold, walk away.

## Will it work with your pump and data system?

### Communication and control

Look at the interfaces, not just the model name. Marshall Scientific's specifications for an Agilent 1100 G1313A list CAN, GPIB, RS-232C and APG remote; for a [1260 Infinity II G7129A](https://marshallscientific.com/products/agilent-1260-infinity-ii-hplc-g7129a-vialsampler), CAN, LAN and an ERI connector for ready, start, stop and shutdown signals. In Agilent stacks the modules share a CAN bus and one module carries the LAN connection to the PC, so something in your stack needs a working LAN interface.

Then find the supported-instrument list for your exact CDS version and confirm the module and firmware are on it. If the autosampler and pump are from different vendors and no driver set covers both, the fallback is a remote start (contact closure) cable: the sampler signals the injection and the data system starts acquisition. That works for simple runs, but you lose single-sequence control.

A Waters ACQUITY Sample Manager at EUR 2,400 looks cheap, but it is a module of the ACQUITY UPLC system. Price it only if you already run that platform.

### Pressure and plumbing

Rotor seals come in pressure classes: Agilent sells a [400 bar Vespel rotor seal](https://eshop.hpst.cz/en/228501-rotor-seal-vespel-400-bar-2grooves) (0100-1853) and puts a 600 bar seal (0101-1416) in its [PM kit for the G1329B](https://eshop.hpst.cz/en/82810-pm-kit-for-g1329b-autosampler). Compare the module's specified range (0-600 bar for the G7129A) and the seal fitted with your method's peak pressure plus a margin. A 400 bar sampler behind a method that peaks at 450 bar will leak. Our guide to [HPLC pressure ratings in psi, bar and MPa](/en/blog/hplc-pressure-psi-bar) explains the conversions and margins, and [the 6-port injection valve explained](/en/blog/six-port-injection-valve) covers rotor seal wear.

### Cooling

On many modular systems the sample cooler is a separate module; Quantum Analytics sells the [Agilent G1330B autosampler thermostat](https://store.lqa.com/product/3221-agilent-1290-infinity-hplc-autosampler-thermostat-g1330b/) as its own item. If you need cooled samples, confirm the cooler is included, reaches its set point and drains condensate.

## Inspection checklist before you pay

Ask the seller to run these checks on video or send the diagnostic report (Marshall Scientific includes Agilent Lab Advisor documentation with recertified units).

| Part | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Needle | Straight, no burrs or bent tip; correct type for your vials or plates | A damaged needle cores septa and seals poorly in the seat |
| Needle seat | Last replacement date; no leak during a pressure test | A worn seat causes leaks, poor precision and carryover |
| Rotor seal and stator | Scratches or grooves; valve switches without error; pressure holds | Scored seals leak and add carryover |
| Metering device or syringe | Seal age; no leaks; smooth draw at full volume | Worn metering seals give low or variable injection volumes |
| Tray, gripper and arm | Full homing; picks every position; no grinding | Alignment faults strand vials and crash needles |
| Wash system | Wash pump tubing or cartridge; flush port clean | A dead wash pump means high carryover |
| Leak sensor and drain | Sensor triggers when wetted; drain tube intact | Unattended runs depend on it |
| Firmware and boards | Version number; LAN card present and working | Determines CDS compatibility |
| Maintenance counters and history | Injection counts, valve switches, service reports | Tells you which parts are near the end of life |
| Cooling (if fitted) | Reaches set point; condensate drains | Sample stability |
| Accessories | Trays, loop, capillaries, front cover, power cord | Missing trays and covers are expensive to source |

The PM kits show which parts the manufacturer expects to wear. Agilent's kit for the G1313A and G1329A contains a Vespel rotor seal, needle seat, needle, peristaltic pump cartridge and seal-tight nut; the kit for the G1367E also includes a metering seal ([HPST](https://eshop.hpst.cz/en/83619-pm-kit-for-g1367e-sampler)).

### Acceptance tests on arrival

Before the module goes into routine use:

1. Replace the wear parts unless the seller documents recent replacement.
2. Run 6-10 replicate injections of a stable standard (a rule of thumb) and compare the area RSD with the published precision; for the G1313A, [Marshall Scientific's listing](https://marshallscientific.com/products/agilent-1100-hplc-g1313a-autosampler) quotes typically below 0.5% RSD from 5 to 100 µL.
3. Inject a blank after your highest standard to measure carryover (see [how to measure and reduce autosampler carryover](/en/blog/autosampler-carryover)).
4. Check injection-volume linearity across the range you use.
5. Run the vendor's pressure or leak test and, if cooled, a temperature check.

For regulated work, follow a full [autosampler qualification](/en/blog/autosampler-qualification) protocol. If the tests fail, our [autosampler troubleshooting guide](/en/blog/autosampler-troubleshooting) lists the usual causes.

## What does it cost to own over five years?

The purchase price is only part of the bill. A simple model:

```text
TCO = purchase + shipping and installation + years × annual maintenance parts
      + service labour + repairs − resale value
```

Worked example, parts only, assuming one PM kit a year, in-house labour and no major repair. EU kit prices are from HPST and exclude VAT; the US kit price is from Chrom Tech. All seen October 2026.

```text
A. Agilent G1367C, used and inspected (EU)
   4,600 + 5 × 2,090.84 (G1367-68734 kit)  = EUR 15,054
B. Agilent G1329A, used, no warranty (US seller, EUR price)
   1,500 + 5 × 586.39 (G1313-68730 kit)    = EUR 4,432
C. Agilent G7129A, refurbished (US)
   10,515 + 5 × 1,099.15 (G7129-68740 kit) = USD 16,011
```

What the example shows:

- In option A, five years of parts (EUR 10,454) cost more than twice the module: the [G1367C/D kit](https://eshop.hpst.cz/en/83618-pm-kit-for-hip-sampler-g1367c-d) is EUR 2,090.84, against EUR 1,443.51 for the [1260 Infinity II Vialsampler kit](https://eshop.hpst.cz/en/110609-pm-kit-1260-inf-ii-vialsampler).
- Option B is cheapest on paper but carries all the risk: no warranty, shipping from the US and any repair beyond the PM kit. A and B are also past Agilent's guaranteed support (May 2018 and May 2015), so a failed board or motor may not be repairable.
- Option C costs most up front but buys a newer module with LAN, a less expensive kit ([USD 1,099.15 at Chrom Tech](https://chromtech.com/g7129-68740---pm-kit-1260-inf-ii-vialsampler)) and a 180-day warranty.

Light users will not need a full kit every year; let the maintenance counters decide. We found no public prices for service contracts on used modules, so get quotes from the vendor and an independent service company, and put a cost on a week of downtime.

## When does a new autosampler make more sense?

Buy new, or vendor-refurbished with a service contract, when you work under GMP or GLP and need current CDS drivers, vendor qualification documents and guaranteed parts. Buy used or refurbished when you are extending an existing same-brand stack, have in-house service skills and can absorb a week of downtime.

A third case: you need a small injector for a reactor sampling rig, a teaching lab or a scripted Python workflow, not a full CDS stack. Our comparison of [compact HPLC autosamplers](/en/blog/compact-hplc-autosamplers) covers that market. Elutrolab, which publishes this blog, is developing the [AS-48](/en#specifications) for this use: it is driven over a USB serial port with a documented text command set, has no CDS drivers and no contact-closure output, and is still an engineering prototype.

> Note from Elutrolab: If you mainly need a small new injector for a scripted or non-vendor setup, the Elutrolab AS-48 is a compact alternative in development: 140 × 155 × 168 mm, 48 vials, 1-100 µL fixed-loop injection, 5000 psi design rating*. It is a prototype, quotes only; * marks design targets.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does a used HPLC autosampler cost?

In October 2026 we saw used units sold as is or without a warranty from about EUR 1,500 and USD 2,200, inspected used units at EUR 2,400-4,600 excluding VAT, and refurbished Agilent modules with a 90-180 day warranty at USD 3,200-10,800. A refurbished Agilent 1260 Infinity II Vialsampler (G7129A) was listed at USD 10,515.

### What is the difference between a used and a refurbished autosampler?

A refurbished unit has been tested and repaired by the seller and comes with a stated warranty, typically 90-180 days from the sellers we checked. A used unit may only have been powered on, and is often sold with a short warranty or none at all.

### Which autosampler parts wear out and should be replaced after purchase?

The rotor seal, needle, needle seat, metering or syringe seals and the wash pump tubing. Manufacturer preventive maintenance kits bundle these parts; budget for one on arrival unless the seller can document a recent replacement.

### Can I run a used autosampler from one brand with a pump from another brand?

Only if your chromatography data system has drivers for both modules, or if you can start runs with a remote start (contact closure) signal between them. Check the interfaces on the module and the supported-instrument list of your CDS version before you buy.

### Are older autosamplers such as the Agilent 1100 still supported?

Agilent's guaranteed support for the 1100 Series ended in May 2015 and for the 1200 Series in May 2018; after that, repair parts are supplied only while stock lasts, although wear-part kits were still on sale in October 2026. Thermo Fisher has discontinued the UltiMate 3000 without publishing a service end date on its product page. Ask the vendor in writing about your exact module.
